MISR Plume Height Climatology Product
Aerosol plume injection height retrievals for global fire events. Uses stereoscopic imaging capability of MISR (275-m spatial resolution for 672 nm spectral band and 1.1 km spatial resolution for 446 nm spectral band). Events are identified primarily by MODIS thermal anomalies. MISR data are processed using the MISR INteractive eXplorer (MINX) software tool, which requires operator interaction for each event. The retrieval is purely geometric, so radiometric calibration is not a factor in product quality. Retrievals can be obtained wherever there are contrast features and sufficient opacity in the aerosol plume, which generally means near-source wildfire smoke, volcanic effluent, and desert dust plumes.
